MONTICELLO, N.Y. -- It's been one year since the remains of April Parker were found in the woods behind an apartment complex in Monticello.
“She was a wonderful person," said Jamel Barnes, April’s neighbor. "Nice, always smiling, never had a bad thing to say.”
On Wednesday, loved ones gather to remember the mother of four.
“Basically remembering April," said Brianna Bukovinsky, April’s friend. "Getting her name out there, trying to keep her name alive.”
Since the discovery, the case has remain unsolved. As the investigation continues, the case is now in the hands of state police.
“I reached out as a mother because I know what it feels like to have your child or a friend taken away from you,” said Janette Williams, a Monticello resident.
In 2009, Williams' son was also murdered in the village. She says not knowing can be the toughest part.
“The horrific part right now is because they don’t have answers,” Williams said.
“We as a community should care more about everybody," Bukovinsky said. "Not just April, it’s a community in general. It’s sad to me.”
Loved ones say they will continue to fight to keep Parker's name alive until justice is served.
“I’m just hopeful and I pray every day that there is justice for April,” Bukovinsky said.
“Don’t give up. This is your friend. This is her children’s mom. They need to know. They need answers,” Williams said.
