Good morning, Texas. Here's what you need to know today.

Your Weather Planner

We'll approach the tail end of this rain event later today, but until then, we've got quite the soggy start. As you head out the door this morning and are out and about through midday, expect rounds of rainfall with the possibility of a few thunderstorms as well. Latest data suggests that our severe weather threat has gone down across South-Central and Central Texas, with heavy rain and flooding being the biggest threats before the system pulls away this afternoon. Central Texas got over an inch of rainfall yesterday and an additional 1 to 2 inches is still possible. It's a good idea to stay weather aware and slow down while driving, as periods of heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding on already saturated roads. We'll dry out overnight and get quite foggy by Saturday morning. Then, we'll be generally dry Saturday with highs back in the mid 80s.

A poll by Texas Public Opinion Research, released Thursday, details Texans' opinions on the 2025 legislative session.

2. Texas aims to adopt Trump's DOGE model with recently passed Senate bill

The Texas Senate passed legislation that would essentially create an efficiency office similar to the recently created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) service.

Senate Bill 14, sponsored by Republican Sen. Phil King, would create a Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office within the governor’s office, overseen by an advisory panel to streamline regulations.

3. Bill that would have put Austin under state control voted down in Texas House

Lawmakers on Wednesday rejected a bill that would have turned Texas’ capital city into the state-controlled “District of Austin.”

Republican Deer Park Rep. Briscoe Cain’s House Bill 274, filed last November, was brought before the Committee on State Affairs, where it died when it received zero votes.
