Several locks on the New York state canal system have finally opened after weather delays.
Locks now open include Lock 23 in Brewerton, as well as locks 17 through 22 near the Mohawk Valley.
Lock 24 in Baldwinsville remains closed. The State Canal Corporation said Monday that locks 2-16 and the Champlain Canal were expected to open this upcoming weekend. The Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals were closed to navigation "as water levels remain high and unsafe," according to a Canal Corporation press release.
"Boaters who are navigating the open sections of the Canal system should be aware of floating debris generated by recent heavy rainfall and proceed with caution [and] at a 'No Wake' speed as some debris may be hard to see," the release read. "Some buoys (Aids to Navigation) may be off station and are being relocated by Canal Corporation employees."
