A local police officer has been arrested in connection to a identity theft investigation.

Maxim Sander, 28 from Middletown, was arrested Monday after an extensive investigation by state police. Authorities were able to determine that Sander bought several items and services with stolen credit card information. There are no details on how he obtained credit card information in the first place.

Sander is currently a part-time police officer in the towns of Mount Hope and Wallkill. Sander is now being charged with felony identity theft, scheme to defraud and petit larceny. He is due in court next week.

More arrests are expected to be made in connection to the case, but we don't know yet if any other suspects are also members of law enforcement. State Police and the Orange County District Attorney's Office are investigating.
