A Middletown doctor's office is at the center of a medicare fraud case.
Four people at Dolson Avenue Medical, a practice that provided chiropractic services, pain management and other medical services, are accused of fraudulently billing health care insurers. James Spina, Jeffrey Spina, Kimberly Spina and Andrea Grossman are all facing charges.
Investigators say that, between 2011 and 2017, James and Jeffrey Spina, both chiropractors who ran the practice day to day, submitted fake claims totaling more than $80 million.
Each of the four accused is charged with conspiring to commit heath care fraud. James and Jeffrey Spina are charged with obstructing and impeding a federal audit.
In addition, Charles Bagley, a doctor formerly associated with the practice, pleaded guilty this week to conspiracy to commit health care fraud in a separate case.
