Albany International Airport will now offer COVID-19 saliva tests for its employees.

The announcement was made at the airport Sunday morning. Testing is voluntary and is provided at no cost to employees.

It should be available to passengers by the end of the month. The test was created by SUNY Upstate Medical University, which will process the tests.

Travelers will be given a kit and can either submit the test at the airport or take at home and mail it in.

The test has a turnaround time of about 48 hours, and only takes around 15 seconds to take, as demonstrated by County Executive Dan McCoy.

"We will pick up people on the first, second and third day of the infection rather than day five when the virus is at a higher level, so that’s very important to is as well,” said Dr. Mantosh Dewan, president of SUNY Upstate Medical University. “We will not miss very many people coming through."

The test will cost between $30 and $60 to travelers.
