Stanley Crouch, a lauded poet, musician and cultural critic, died at a Bronx hospital Wednesday.

Crouch was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Manhattan in 1975. He is the author of eight books and hundreds of articles, essays and reviews.

From 1995 to 2014, he wrote a column for the Daily News, in which he commented on race, culture and local issues.

Crouch was a large advocate for Louis Armstrong's legacy, and spent much of the last decade as the President of the Louis Armstrong Foundation, which supports music education.

He was also a musician himself, and co-founded Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Crouch was 74 years old.
