Now that we are about to enter the heart of fall, the chill has certainly settled in. Chilly days and longer, colder nights are now upon us.

What You Need To Know

  • Syracuse has recorded its two coldest temperatures since last May

  • The last time Syracuse had measurable snow was in April

  • May 1 was the last time Syracuse was below freezing

After a long, hot summer, it’s easy to forget the last time we experienced a true winter chill. We’ve now traded in the ice cold lemonade for hot chocolate and hot apple cider.

Last week, Syracuse experienced the coldest morning that we’ve seen in the last several months when the temperature got down to 39 degrees on Sept. 30. It was the coldest temperature we felt since May 9, when the low temperature was 36 degrees.

Since then, we had an even chillier start to the day on Oct. 3 when the low was 38 degrees.

It’s been a while since Syracuse had a temperature at or below freezing. The last time this happened was on May 1, when the low temperature was 31 degrees.

And how about the last time Syracuse had measurable snow? That occurred on April 19 when 1.9 inches accumulated.

The forecast calls for a warming trend for the middle of this week with highs in the 60s and low 70s on Wednesday and Thursday.

Don’t get used to the milder temperatures, though. A cold front will swing through on Friday, bringing back the fall chill in full force heading into the weekend.
