Syracuse women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman said Tuesday that his team is not in "panic mode," but that may have changed Thursday when freshman phenom Kamilla Cardoso became the 12th Orange player to enter the transfer portal in the last month. Mitchell Northam of @TheNextHoops was the first to report the news.
Cardoso, who started every game except the season opener, finished second on the team in scoring and led the way in rebounds and blocked shots. The 6-foot, 7-inch Brazilian's 65 blocked shots led the ACC and helped her earn the league's Freshman and Co-Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Her departure leaves Syracuse with just three players off of last year's roster, none of whom played in the team's two NCAA tournament games. Hillsman has also added four players from the transfer portal, three guards and a forward, and will bring in five more players in his 2021 recruiting class, which ESPN ranks as the 11th-best class in the country.
