Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get worse for the SU men's lacrosse team, it did Tuesday with the news that star attackman Chase Scanlan has been suspended from the team indefinitely. Inside Lacrosse was the first to report the news, and it was later confirmed in a brief statement from the university.
Scanlan, a third-year sophomore, wears No. 22, the most fabled jersey number in program history, and leads the team with 24 goals this season. He also led the Orange with 18 goals in five games last season before the campaign was abruptly cut off by the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The school is offering no further details or comment on the reasons for Scanlan's suspension, nor the expected length.
Syracuse (5-4) is in danger of missing out on the NCAA tournament with two games remaining in the regular season, both on the road. SU visits No. 5 Virginia Saturday and No. 2 Notre Dame the following weekend.
