Syracuse, N.Y. -- After rocketing up the rankings following a 10-win 2018 season, Syracuse football coach Dino Babers is plummeting in the same poll after winning half that many games last year.
Babers took the second-biggest fall of any of the 65 coaches in the CBS Sports 2020 rankings, dropping 21 spots from No. 27 last year to No. 48 this year. It matches the number of positions he'd risen after going 10-3 in 2018 on the heels of back-to-back 4-8 seasons.
SU's fifth-year coach ranks 10th among the 14 head coaches in the ACC, ahead of N.C. State's Dave Doeren (No. 49), Miami's Manny Diaz, Georgia Tech's Geoff Collins, and BC's Jeff Hafley. Duke's David Cutcliffe is the highest-rated ACC coach so far at No. 26 with the top 25 yet to be released.
The Orange are scheduled to open the 2020 season at Boston College on September 4.
