Syracuse University quarterback Garrett Shrader will miss Thursday's Boca Raton Bowl due to recent shoulder surgery, according to the school.
Shrader played with a tear in his shoulder since October, per an SU press release, and had surgery on it after the regular season ended.
“It was important for me to get our team to a bowl game," Shrader said. "I would have done it earlier in the season, but I wanted to wait until we got bowl eligible. This team has too much talent and works too hard not to play a 13th game."
Syracuse (6-6) meets South Florida (6-6) in the bowl game Thursday at Florida Atlantic University Stadium. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
Shrader's SU career ends with 7,474 yards of total offense and 39 touchdown passes. He also ran for more than 1,700 yards and 31 touchdowns with the Orange after transferring from Mississippi State.
