Number 44 is a legendary number in Syracuse, made famous by Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little.

For Corcoran running back Jeadi Higdon, it has a different meaning.

“I rock 44 because of my cousin. RIP," Higdon said. "He played for [Jamesville-Dewitt]. He was number 44. He played running back, too. So, I want to honor him and rock 44.”

Motivated by a cousin’s memory and returning from an injury last fall that cost him much of the season, Higdon has rushed for more than 300 yards through the first two weeks of this season.

“It made me want to work even harder seeing my teammates going out there pouring their hearts out. It makes me want to work even harder," Higdon said. "I like that we don't give up. We just keep fighting no matter what. And we are a good team. We just going to keep pushing until we get that time.”

He'll look to continue the attack when Corcoran visits Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the Spectrum News 1 Friday Night Matchup.

As good as Higdon looks on the field, he also helps make his teammates look good off it. Swapping a football for some hair clippers, he serves up a fresh look when he gets a chance.

“Started off on some kids around my house," Higdon said of his first haircuts. "They kept asking me and then ever since, I just kept going. I would have never thought that I'd even be here right now. For now, it's more like a hobby, but like you never know where the future takes you. So you never know. So I'm gonna go from there.”

It may not seem like much on the outside, but to Higdon, it’s a chance to bond with his teammates as they begin to make their push to a sectional championship.

“I love giving back, so to my boys, anything I can do to help the team," Higdon said.
