Breanna Stewart is expected to sign with New York Liberty, she announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
Stewart will leave the Seattle Storm after playing for the team for seven years and leading them to WNBA Championship twice, in 2020 and 2018. She was named WNBA MVP in 2018 and WNBA Rookie of the year in 2016.
The Central New York native attended Cicero-North Syracuse High School before playing for the University of Connecticut Huskies. The team won the NCAA National Championship four times and Stewart was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player a record four times.
In 2016, Stewart was the first WNBA draft pick and an Olympic gold medalist.
Wednesday was the first day players could officially sign contracts for the 2023 season.
