Professional hockey is officially back in Binghamton, just weeks after losing their team.

The “Binghamton Black Bears” are the Federal Prospects Hockey League's newest team and will play in the upcoming season this year.

The first games will begin in October at the Visions Federal Credit Union Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.

Season tickets will start as low as $10 per game, and games will have a heavy focus on fan involvement.

The Black Bears will play a 30-game season , which will extend from October to April, including playoff games. This comes on the heels of the Binghamton Devils deciding to leave the city for Utica, one year before their contract expired.

County Executive Jason Garnar said this will be a big boost for the city.

“As our community rebounds from the COVID pandemic, having a primary tenant in our arena will help bring people back to downtown Binghamton and support our other great local businesses in the process," Garnar said.

The Black Bears will continue a 50-year tradition of having professional hockey in Binghamton.
