The NASCAR Cup Series at Watkins Glen International is always a unique experience.

“One thing I do think is the campers up there are nuts,” said Joey Logano, who drives the no. 22 car for Team Penske. “The party that is Watkins Glen is awesome. So the fans are great when you go to Watkins Glen.”

What You Need To Know

  • Go Bowling at the Glen is the second leg of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs this season

  • The race will get underway at 3 p.m. Sunday

  • Mission 200 at the Glen, the NASCAR Xfinity Series race, is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday

The 90 lap, 220 1/2-mile road course race is also a unique challenge.

However, this year there’s a major change. Instead of Go Bowling at the Glen happening in August, the race is taking place in September. It’ll serve as the second round of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

“It's definitely one of the most interesting playoff schedules that we've had,” Logano said. “When you look at the road courses that are in it, the Go Bowling at the Watkins Glen; you got Atlanta; you got Talladega; two Super Speedways is in there.”

Despite just one win and four top-five finishes in what Logano has described as a rough season, he’s still in the chase for the championship. Plus, the two-time cup series champion is entering the playoffs with a lot of confidence with his race car’s speed improving.

“These guys have worked together for a long time: Paul Wolfe, our crew chief, myself, even our pit crew, a lot of them have been there, done that. So we've won the championship before going in as the underdogs," Logano said.

Watkins Glen has recently been dominated by Hendrick Motorsports, which has had five consecutive trips to victory lane there. But Logano is looking to win at the Glen for the first time since 2015, and make a run for the title in what is expected to be another chaotic playoffs.

“Teams are going to have to do desperate things to try to get through. And usually, that creates drama and it hurts feelings,” Logano said. “And no one wants to be knocked out of the playoffs at any point, and so you got to assume that's probably what it's going to look like again.”
