The American Hockey League has officially dropped the puck on some changes to the local landscape.
The AHL Board of Governors approved two franchise changes at their meeting Thursday.
As previously known Wednesday, the Utica Comets will be moving to Abbotsford, British Columbia — closer to their affiliate the Vancouver Canucks.
Utica will then become home to the New Jersey Devils' affiliate, which currently plays in Binghamton.
There's no word on any replacement team for the Southern Tier.
The changes will begin with the 2021-2022 AHL season.
