Syracuse, N.Y. -- Similar to when she won the WNBA's Most Valuable Player award back in 2018, Breanna Stewart was the obvious choice when the 2020 AP Comeback Player of the Year award was announced Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • Breanna Stewart was named the AP WNBA Comeback Player of the Year Tuesday, as well as a First Team All-Star.

  • The former C-NS standout finished in the top 5 in the league in scoring and blocked shots this season in her return from an Achilles injury that kept her out all of last season.

  • Stewart was the WNBA's MVP in 2018 when she led the Storm to the league title.

  • The Storm are the No. 2 seed in the WNBA Playoffs, earning a bye into the semifinals.

The former C-NS high school star led the Seattle Storm in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots, and she finished in the top 5 in the league in points and blocks this season. Stewart averaged nearly 20 points per game in her return from an Achilles injury that kept her sidelined all of last season.

“I would give myself like a A-minus, B-plus,” the 26-year old phenom said when grading her season so far. “I want to play, and when I want to play I want to be great. I want to be my best and I want to do everything great. So when I look at that side of things, I’m like, I could have done some things better. But then on the other side of things, I’m like, OK, I just came back from an Achilles injury."

Stewart, who was also named a First Team All-Star, and the Storm tied for the best record in the league during the abbreviated 2020 season and earned the second seed in the playoffs. The 2018 champs have a bye into the WNBA Semifinals which are scheduled to begin September 20.
