Shocking news out of Cornell after a shocking end to their spring sports season. Peter Milliman is leaving Cornell for the men’s lacrosse head coaching position at Johns Hopkins.
Chris Jastrezembski first reported the news Saturday night.
Milliman, who just completed his second season as head coach at Cornell, leaves after seven years with the program. Cornell was 5-0 and ranked number two in the country when the outbreak of COVID-19 forced the end of the season.
Back in 2017, he became interim head coach after four years as a Big Red assistant, leading Cornell to a 28-10 record in his three seasons as head coach.
Currently Cornell is in the middle of a hiring freeze, so a replacement for Milliman will not be immediately sought.
Jastrzembski, a former Spectrum News intern who now works for ESPN, speculates four outside names along with four Cornell assistants who might receive consideration for the open position.
John Galloway, the head coach at Jacksonville, is a former Syracuse goalie who led the Orange to back-to-back national championships in 2008-09. The latter coming against Cornell.
