JJ Starling is considered one of the best talents in the state when it comes to the 2022 recruiting class, but according to the New York State Sportswriters Association the B’ville star lands on the 8th team.

The large school (Classes AA and A) all-state selections were released Thursday and our local players had a difficult time cracking the top teams. Xavier Hill of Johnson City is highest selection of Sections 3 and 4, landing on the Class A All-State 4th team. Meanwhile, Payton Shumpert of Jamesville-DeWitt is one spot back as Section 3’s highest selected player, earning a 4th team spot in Class A.

As for some of the bigger names like Starling, De’Jour Reaves and Will Amica of Section 3, they landed on the 8th, 11th and 12th all-state teams. The top four teams of the all-state selections come in very downstate heavy, featuring the likes of the PSAL, CHS, Section 1 and Section 11.
