SYRACUSE -- What seemed like a troubling offseason two weeks ago now seems to be on the up-and-up.
Multiple reports surfaced Saturday night that Illinois sophomore guard Alan Griffin is transferring to Syracuse.
On Sunday, Griffin made the move official announcing his commitment to Syracuse via his twitter account.
The 6’5” guard reportedly received interest from Arizona State, Miami and Texas. Griffin could potentially fill the void left by the ACC’s leading scorer Elijah Hughes who announced his intentions of going pro last month.
Last season with the Illini, Griffin shot nearly 42% from three while averaging 8.9 PPG and 4.5 RPG in 28 games played.
Whether or not Griffin will have immediate eligibility next season with the Orange is up in the air. The NCAA is expected to vote on allowing all players to transfer one time without out having to sit out the year.
Griffin’s father, Adrian, is an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors. His brother, AJ, is a highly touted recruit who will suit up for Duke next season.
