SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Corcoran is the highest remaining seed in the AA section tournament. Why? Because they have one of the best players in the area in De'Jour Reaves. It's easy to spot him on the court. He's crafty and quick, and just two weeks ago he put up 47 to break the Cougars all-time scoring record. That number was very impressive to his coach, Jesse Long. "I think his all-time high was 35 and for him to go for 47 on senior night was pretty amazing.”

It's not just the skill that draws the eye to De'Jour. It's also the sleeve and the tattoos that make him easy to spot. Reaves takes time to describe each one to the camera, including a detailed image on his left forearm of his moms name. “This one right here is my mom, my ride or die, and this one right here is Only Fear God cause I don’t fear nobody but God.”

Growing up, De'Jour, who's name means "of the day" always loved basketball because of his parents, and because of NBA legend Kobe Bryant. It's no secret that Reaves was heartbroken after Bryant died tragically in a helicoper crash last month, but he still tries his best to emulate #24. I asked what the Mamba Mentality means to him. “Going out there hard. Having a lot of fight In you, and not giving up.”

Long only said positive things about his guard, who he described as humble multiple times. “He’s a better kid than he is player. He’s very unselfish, he’s a very humble kid and when he gets on the court he’s always putting up a phenomenal effort.”

That effort might lead to the first section title for the Cougars in two decades. Their quest continues on Sunday in the AA semis agaist Bishop Ludden.
