SPECTRUM NEWS ARTICLE: Last week it looked like the SU ladies had no chance at making the NCAA tournament, this week, they're back in the conversation. Why? Well a win over 5th ranked Louisville certainly helps. It was the first win over a top five opponent at the Dome for the Orange since 1996. With that victory, they're now 12-11 this season, and 6-6 in the conference.
How it Happened: In the second quarter, SU went on a 12-3 run led by Kiara Lewis and Emily Engstler to take a 10-point lead into halftime. In the second half, strong defense mixed with an outstanding performance led to a shocking 59-51 win. Those 51 points were the lowest that the Cardinals have scored all season. A big reason why they were held so low was the 22 turnovers forced by the Orange defense.
Major Milestone: This victory was the 300th career win for SU head coach Quentin Hillsman. After the game, his wife delivered him some flowers and he had no idea why. He was concerned he had missed a birthday or an anniversary, but to his surprise, she was celebrating his win.
What's Next?: SU has six games left in the regular season, starting with UNC on Thursday. Of those six games, three are teams under SU in the conference standings. They need to win as many of these games as possible to secure a solid seed in the ACC tournament. To really have a shot at the NCAA tourney, they need to make a run in the conference tournament, or even win it all. With that being said, they have a solid resume. They have one of the most difficult schedules in the country, and that will definitely help their chances come March.
