A Syracuse native is headed to space.

Astronaut Jeanette Epps has been selected by NASA for the mid-February SpaceX Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station. Dr. Epps, two other NASA astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut will be aboard a Dragon spacecraft on a Falcon 9 rocket launching in mid-February from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Epps, according to NASA, has been an astronaut since 2009 and will serve as mission specialist and flight engineer for the upcoming mission. She graduated from Corcoran High School in 1988 and Le Moyne in 1992 before earning postgraduate degrees and working for the Ford Motor Company and the CIA. This, NASA says, will be her first space flight.
