A 13-year-old boy has been charged following the deadly shooting of a 16-year-old in Syracuse.

Police said officers were called to 309 Herbert Street around 11:30 a.m. Monday after a call came in saying someone was shot. When they arrived, they found the victim, Dostdar Ali Khel, 16. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation that quickly followed, police arrested a 13-year-old suspect on First North Street.

He has been charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, both in the second degree. He is being held at the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center pending arraignment. Because of the suspect's age, his name is not being released.

This investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with any information on why and how this all took place is asked to call Syracuse Police.

A candlelight vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 309 Herbert Street, where Khel's body was found. Syracuse City Schools officials say he was a Henninger High School student. Grief counselors are on hand for those in the district who need to speak with someone.
