Syracuse police say a foot chase of a suspect ended Tuesday night when the man fatally shot himself.

Police said they witnessed a man in his 20s firing a gun at someone around 8 p.m. Tuesday. They say they chased him to Carbon Street, where "the male suspect shot himself with a firearm he possessed. The suspect was provided care at the scene and transported to Upstate Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead."

The self-inflicted gunshot, "accidental or intentional," is being investigated, according to police.
