The wife of an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who police said tried to kill her in a murder-suicide in February, is now facing new charges related to theft from the county.
According to the Onondaga County district attorney's office, a grand jury has handed up a five-count indictment against Karen Eames, which includes three charges that were not previously brought against her. They are two counts of attempted grand larceny and money laundering.
She was charged in June with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property for her alleged role in her husband's theft of more than $500,000 in county funds.
Eames’ husband, Isaac Eames, shot and killed his son and left his wife injured before taking his own life in Brewerton on Feb. 7.
Isaac Eames allegedly embezzled roughly $529,000 from from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office civil division bank account, authorities alleged, and prosecutors have said Karen Eames was involved and aware.
Karen Eames also faces a lawsuit brought by the county DA seeking the forfeiture of her home and bank accounts.
