The Ogdensburg Correctional Facility has officially closed its doors.

It's one of six facilities across New York slated to close this month by the New York State Department of Corrections.

Since January 2020, corrections officials say the number of inmates has dropped by more than 13,000, the lowest total in New York prisons since 1983.

They said Ogdensburg was under 40% of its capacity, with 155 inmates.

The building originally opened as a prison in 1982, taking over the former Saint Lawrence Psychiatric Center.
