Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh and Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens took part in a community briefing Wednesday, which included an update on the latest crime data.

Walsh said violent crimes are up 22 percent from this time last year, along with three additional homicides. But total crime is down 14 percent.

When it comes to COVID-19, Walsh said active cases have gone down from 329 to 197 since last Wednesday.

Walsh was also pleased to see around 300 people get vaccinated at the Destiny USA clinic over the weekend and he encourages more people to get in line.

Leaders also announced city hall will be reopening on Monday. Walsh said there are more public parking options on Market Street. You'll also have to use a new entrance ramp on Market Street to get into the building.

A new high occupancy monitoring and enforcement team is on the ground to keep tabs on large living centers with a high volume of code violations and police calls. It comes amid recent issues at the Skyline Apartments complex. Among those on the team include police, fire and codes departments.
