Two New York state corrections officers are dead and one is seriously injured after an apparent murder-suicide in Utica, according to police.

According to Utica Police, Christopher Conkling, 33, of Utica, entered the home of his ex-fiance, Heather Mock, 35, at 455 Elmhurst Road around 12:10 a.m. Monday and shot another man, Andrew Pruitt, 33, who was with her, in the head.

Police said the shooting followed an argument.

Authorities said Conkling then abducted Mock and brought her to his house on VanRensselar Road. Police eventually entered the alleged shooter's home, where they found both Conkling and Mock dead.

Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said this is the second recent homicide that appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

“Society has changed dramatically,” he said. “I mean, it seems that people use extreme measures to now settle their problems. Let's face it. We've had two murder-suicides within a month. I'm getting tired of this."

The YWCA Mohawk Valley helps people in domestic violence situations.

Their CEO said enough is enough.

"I think we need to come together as a community, and really rally around prevention education, really rally around being aware of what's going on around us," said YWCA Mohawk Valley CEO Dianne Stancato.

Police said Pruitt, who was shot in the head, is expected to survive.

All three of them worked at the Marcy Correctional Facility.

The State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said they are "deeply saddened by these tragic events and we extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and loved ones."
