An Onondaga County legislator is arrested for a domestic dispute, shortly after one this morning, in Skaneteales.

According to court documents, Julie Abbott-Kenan's husband, Steven Kenan, told police she hit the windshield of his 2019 Chevy Silverado with a metal baseball bat. He pressed charges and sought an order of protection.

Abbott-Keenan was arraigned this morning on one count of criminal mischief in the fourth degree. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 27.

“In the aftermath of a continuous and hurtful destruction of my marriage, I had a momentary and regrettable lapse in judgment last evening,” said Abbott-Kenan in a statement. “Nothing matters more to me than protecting the well-being of my four children, who have already endured significant trauma in their young lives - and accordingly I request that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

I have spent years advocating for real victims of domestic violence, and will continue to do so with renewed enthusiasm.”

As a legislator, Abbott-Keenan represents the Skanaeteles, Otisco and Marcellus areas. She has also served on the Skaneateles School Board, and is a former local television personality.
