Syracuse Democrats have officially backed Pat Hogan, 74, for mayor.

Hogan currently serves as the Second District common councilor in Syracuse. He was one of four Democrats to enter the race.

The endorsement comes just days after Republicans selected Thomas Babilon as the party's nominee. Babilon is a former city hall lawyer.

The primary election is expected to be close, with Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens also in the running.

Current Mayor Ben Walsh finishes his final term at the end of this year.
