Local Republicans have selected former city hall laywer Thomas Babilon to run as the GOP nominee for Syracuse mayor in the upcoming election, according to a Facebook post from him.
Babilon ran in the Republican primary for mayor four years ago.
Babilon wrote in the Facebook post "Tonight I am proud to accept the Republican nomination for the Mayor of the City of Syracuse. Let's do this."
Mayor Ben Walsh, an independent, is term limited. His current term ends at the end of the year.
She was one of the first cabinet level nominees put forward by President Donald Trump just days after his election in November.
The request is for Oneida, Lewis, Herkimer, Oswego and Madison counties.
The Republican Party has yet to designate a candidate.
