There's a local push to lower the burden of prescription drug costs on the public.

Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY25) joined local health care providers for an event Friday to announce his backing of the Lowering Drug Costs for American Families Act. If passed, the federal measure would allow for private health insurers to negotiate with companies on specific drug prices.

Morelle says the goal is to extend the Medicare prescription drug price negotiation program to more people and families.

Morelle called the bill a no-brainer and said that is vital to help struggling families and individuals get the life-saving medications they need at a price that works for them.
