Utica University professor Clemmie Harris is ending his campaign for the Democratic nomination in the race for New York's 22nd Congressional District.
Harris wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, said the move was a result of a dispute over ballot signature requirements with another candidate, DeWitt Town Councilor Sarah Klee Hood.
"Upon review of the objections to my petitions by a member of the Hood campaign, it was determined by the State BOE that my campaign’s volunteer efforts in obtaining the required number of registered Democratic Party signatures to get on the primary ballot fell short by a small number," Harris wrote. "While I am disappointed that the Hood campaign engaged in a egregious effort, which intentionally sought to keep me off the primary ballot and deny Democratic voters an opportunity to decide."
Harris thanked his volunteers and supporters of his campaign.
Klee Hood and state Sen. John Mannion remain as the candidates seeking to unseat Republican Rep. Brandon Williams. A primary election would take place on June 25.
The 22nd Congressional District includes all of Onondaga and Madison counties, southern Oneida County, southern Cayuga County and northern Cortland County.
