The Onondaga County Democratic Committee endorsed state Sen. John Mannion in the race for New York's 22nd Congressional District.

The two-term state legislator earned the backing of the local party establishment on Thursday over DeWitt Town Councilor Sarah Klee Hood, who ran for the same seat in 2022, and Utica University professor Clemmie Harris.

“I am so honored to have earned the designation of the Onondaga County Democratic Committee for my campaign for Congress,” Mannion said in a Facebook post. “Thank you to the committee members for their support. Together, we’ll flip this seat in November!”

Mannion, who announced his campaign in July, has been endorsed by a number of other local officials, including fellow state legislators Assemblyman Al Stirpe and Bill Magnarelli. Mannion was first elected to the state Senate in 2020.

Mannion is running for the Central New York congressional seat currently held by freshman Republican Rep. Brandon Williams. The district includes all of Onondaga, Madison and Oneida counties, as well as a small sliver of Oswego County.

The Onondaga County Democratic Committee also endorsed Onondaga County Legislature Minority Leader Chris Ryan for Mannion’s state Senate seat over former Oswego County Legislature Minority Leader Tom Drumm.
