There have been 730 bills signed into law this year and that number is still rising. Right now, 87 are waiting for the governor's signature. Seventy have been vetoed.
To put things into perspective, the majority of those 730 went into law immediately after the governor signed them. Others went into effect within 16 to 90 days of her signature.
In 2024, the minimum wage goes up to $15 outside of New York City. In 2025 and 2026, it will increase again by 50 cents on the first of each year. Then starting in 2027, it will increase annually according to the Consumer Price Index.

There are exceptions, however. A business account can be accessed if the employee was given prior notice of the company’s right to request or require access. Also, some safety-sensitive jobs, like police and firefighters, are exempt.
Starting in July 2024, non-public schools must provide free period products. It was part of the Health Equity and Opportunity legislative package. It further supports the state’s commitment to gender inclusivity, while providing necessary resources to New York’s youth.
Also in July 2024, local boards of education, BOCES, charter schools and non-public schools will be required to adopt policies to promote student voter registration and pre-registration. They’re also required to provide students with the applications needed and help them fill those out.
