New York state spent over $316 million between April 1 and Sept. 30 on emergency funding related to the ongoing migrant situation, state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office said in a report Friday.

New York City has spent more than $2 billion on the influx of asylum seekers.

Most of the state spending comes from the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance on housing and resettlement funding. A sizable amount also comes from the Division of Military and Naval Affairs on emergency response coordination.

The state budget this spring included $1.5 billion in planned spending that is expected to occur over two fiscal years for emergency spending related to those seeking asylum in the U.S., the report said. Gov. Kathy Hochul sent a letter to President Joe Biden in August that indicated additional spending on the issue is anticipated.

Hochul earlier this week extended her executive order declaring a state of emergency in response to the arrival of migrants, which was first issued on May 11.
