Central New York lawmakers are introducing state legislation that would make it easier on local drivers during the upcoming Interstate 81 community grid project.
State Assemblyman Bill Mangarelli said his bill revolves around getting rid of tolls on the New York state Thruway from exit 34A to exit 39.
That would cover from the intersection with Interstate 481 in East Syracuse to the intersection with Interstate 690 past the State Fairgrounds.
A similar bill had passed the state Legislature a few years ago, but was vetoed by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo because he was worried the bill had no end and they would lose about $1 million a year.
This bill would last just for the length of construction so lawmakers are hopeful about its chance of passing — all to help out people who drive these roads every day.
