U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer made a stop at Broome County's COVID-19 mass vaccination site Friday, discussing the passage of the American Rescue Plan.

The deal delivers more than $140 million in flexible funding to Broome and Tioga county governments.

This includes $48 million for the city of Binghamton, $39 million for Broome County, and $9 million for Tioga County.

The funding will allow governments to hire back furloughed employees, while improving everything from water and sewer to tourism.

Funding was also made available to local theaters, museums and restaurants to bring back and employees who may have been laid off.

"Now with this extra money that people are getting, and taking kids out of poverty, it will help them, but it also helps our whole country because you have more productive citizens, and it's a great thing," said Schumer.

Broome County also plans to add more employees to its vaccination site, with the goal of offering more appointments in the coming weeks.
