Syracuse Common Councilor Michael Greene announced Tuesday he will run for mayor this year.
Current Mayor Ben Walsh, an independent, has already said he will seek re-election.
Greene will run as a Democrat. He has been a councilor-at-large since 2017.
Atop Greene's agenda is affordable housing, developing property that will open up when Interstate 81 comes down, and changing old zoning laws that he said are holding neighborhoods back.
Greene also hopes to implement a commissioner of public safety, someone who works between both the department and city hall to help with reform.
"I think this is a moment that requires change," Greene said. "Again, it's not about the mayor being a bad person, he's a very nice man, a great person. But, the city needs to reform quickly, now. COVID-19 has slashed our budget, we're going to need to make services more efficient, and we don't have four years to wait."
Back in December, Common Councilor Khalid Bey announced he would also be running on the Democratic ticket.
