The Syracuse Police Union Chief is defending a supervisor after an incident with the media on Saturday night.

Syracuse.com has reported that Police Chief Kenton Buckner is reviewing video from the protest response. Post-Standard photographer Dennis Nett was shoved to the ground by a supervisor who left the line to push Nett back. The newspaper says their veteran photographer was in front of the Public Safety Building, wearing press credentials and taking pictures with cameras hanging from his shoulders.

"It's unfortunate that he was knocked down,” said Syracuse Police PBA President Jeff Piedmonte. “He didn't know that he was a photographer. When he's coming around the corner, the windows are getting broken, everything is at the worst part that's going on right then. He just didn't recognize who he was. I don't know if it would have made a difference, he still would have told the reporter he has to get back."

The 60-year old reportedly has scrapes and bruises and two broken camera lenses.
