In his first press conference since the appellate division in Rochester ruled in his favor, Oneida County executive candidate Mike Hennessy is dropping the lawsuit.

Hennessy had filed the suit against the Oneida County Board of Elections after they ruled the signatures he obtained to run on the Democratic line were invalid.

But the appellate division in Rochester affirmed the signatures’ validity, allowing Hennessy to remain on the Democratic line for the upcoming election.

With the lawsuit dropped, Hennessy hopes to move his campaign forward.

"I've cleared my pathway to be able to talk about issues, which was first and foremost,” Hennessy said. “The reason I spent the money I did is because I believe we should have a campaign here, a choice."

Hennessy outlined some of his plans if elected, including cutting government spending to allow for lowering taxes.
