If you thought the race for Watertown Mayor couldn't get any closer after last week's primary, you'd be wrong.

The two candidates competing for the second spot on November's ballot are in a dead tie. Councilman Cody Horbacz and political newcomer Allison Crossman both have 598 votes after absentee ballots were counted, according to the Jefferson County Board of Elections.

As for what happens next, no one quite knows. The Jefferson County Board of Elections has reached out to the state for clarification.

We're told there's a slim chance that a few ballots may come in Tuesday, since that's the actual deadline.

Former City Councilor Jeff Smith has already secured his place on this fall's ballot.
