New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says the state has to make more of an effort in order to meet goals outlined in the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

In a report released Tuesday, DiNapoli said that, along with infrastructure development of renewable projects and problem identification by state agencies, New York must:

  • Increase gigawatt hours in renewable generators by more than 200% over 2022 levels
  • Add 20 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity in the next seven years
  • Streamline permit and interconnection study procedures

"Prior state efforts to increase renewable energy were hindered by inconsistent funding, canceled projects and delays that led to lengthy project timelines and failure to achieve targets," read a press release from DiNapoli's office.
