There are 147 public authorities in New York that failed to file at least one of their required financial reports last year with a state oversight board.
The Authorities Budget Office on Tuesday reported 147 of the entities did not file a required report, including 32 local public authorities and 108 non-profit corporations. Five were industrial development agencies and two are state authorities.
The office was formed as part of a reform meant to create greater oversight of the quasi-public entities in New York that often provide funding for development projects but have also been criticized for lacking transparency.
The office also reported 93 of the public authorities did not file any of their required reports, such as budgets and audits, during the most recent period.
A list of the delinquent authorities was not issued in 2020 as reports that year and in 2021 were affected by the COVID pandemic.
