Last year, Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin and Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi were gearing up for gubernatorial campaigns challenging sitting Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Now out of office after falling short in the general election and Democratic primary, respectively, Zeldin and Suozzi this week announced new roles for themselves.
Zeldin on Wednesday announced the long-expected formation of a political action committee called Leadership America Needs PAC.
The committee will focusing on "engaging new Republican voters" including younger people while also recruiting a diverse array of candidates. Zeldin, who made a short-lived bid for Republican National Committee chair, has not ruled out potential campaigns for the U.S. Senate in 2024 or governor again in 2026.
“I will continue doing everything in my power to save our state and country, which is why I am proud to announce the Leadership America Needs PAC," Zeldin said. "The national 2022 midterm results were the product of political malpractice by the DC political class. Republican leaders must do more to effectively empower compelling voices, exceptionally articulate a resonating message, and actually deliver the Red Wave election America needs."
Suozzi, meanwhile, is joining a consulting firm, Actum LLC. He will be a co-chair of the company. Actum in its announcement said Suozzi will be focusing on its global client base.
“Actum’s exceptional capabilities, global reach and unmatched talent have helped it grow into a powerful platform that gets results for clients," Suozzi said. "I am thrilled to join this team as a Co-Chair of its Strategic Advisory Board and be part of its continued expansion."
