The political action committee backed and co-led by House Democratic Conference Chairman Hakeem Jeffries is endorsing Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's re-election bid in the Hudson Valley. 

The backing from Team Blue PAC for Maloney comes ahead of the Aug. 23 primary for the newly drawn congressional seat. 

The PAC is co-chaired by Jeffries, a Brooklyn Democrat, along with Reps. Josh Gottheimer, Terri Sewell and Cheri Bustos. The endorsement is expected to translate to both financial and strategic backing for the primary bid. 

"Sean Patrick Maloney has been an incredible part of the House Democratic Caucus and has fought hard to try and maintain our majority so we continue to deliver for everyday Americans," Jeffries said in a phone interview on Tuesday afternoon. "It's important for his colleagues to be there for him and communicate that Sean Patrick Maloney has been an effective leader who puts the people of the Hudson Valley first." 

Maloney is facing state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi in the primary contest this month.
