Touting efforts to crack down on wage theft in New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced a new hotline for workers to report potential cases.
The announcement, made with labor union leaders, local prosecutors and state Attorney General Letitia James, came as Hochul also pointed to the results of a task force meant to curtail wage theft in New York.
Over the last several months, millions of dollars have been recovered for workers, representing a key issue that has been raised by labor leaders in the state.
The new hotline to report potential wage theft cases is 833-910-4378.
New York over the last several months has recovered more than $3 million in lost or stolen wages covering 265 workers in recent months.
"It's a warning shot to all of those who think they can steal from workers. Not on my watch," James said at the event with the governor in Queens. "It's my promise to all of you, my promise to all who make New York City and New York state run, my promise to workers."
Wage theft has affected a variety of industries, including home care and car washes, in New York.
