Democratic state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi's campaign this week is being backed by a pair of progressive organizations in her bid for the Democratic nomination in a newly redrawn Hudson Valley House district.

Biaggi was endorsed by Empire State Indivisible and Rockland United in her campaign for the 17th House district primary set for Aug. 23. Biaggi is running against Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney for the party's nomination.

"I am honored to be endorsed by Empire State Indivisible and Rockland United -- two progressive organizations that champion working people across the district and New York," Biaggi said in a statement. "For years, these grassroots groups have helped support and elect progressive candidates - knocking on doors, making calls, and mobilizing voters. Empire State Indivisible and Rockland United understand that with so much at risk, we can no longer afford the status quo. This grassroots support is how I will win no matter how much is spent against me."

Biaggi's endorsements dovetail from the nods she previously received from the New York Progressive Action Network and Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

"Rockland United is proud to endorse Alessandra Biaggi for Congress in NY-17 and we are excited to work together to win the election," said Tina Rose, a steering committee member of Rockland United. "As a New York state senator, she has proven to be a bold and fierce leader who is unafraid to take on the status quo to champion progressive legislation. We are confident she will bring that same fight and determination to Congress where she will put people first - not corporations."
